I am interested in public policy, research, educational equity, and storytelling as they relate to empowering and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities.

Robert F. Smith Fellow. Smithsonian National Museum for African American History and Culture

​May 2018 - August 2018

 

Nationally selected fellow based at the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African American Culture at Alabama State University. Contributing to the creation of the Civil Rights Voices Speak Project, aimed at collecting oral history interviews and making them widely available. 

• Identified and Interviewed individuals active in the Civil Rights Movement in Montgomery, AL.
• Conduct background research for, outline the scope of, and transcribe interviews
• Developed and lead a public workshop series on how the collected oral histories can be utilized by educators
• Executed a objective-centered marketing plan for the publicity of the Civil Rights Voice Speak Project
• Designed exhibits and cultural heritage spaces for the National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African American Culture
• Maintained a digital database for oral histories and other archival material

"Georgetown Stories" is a multi-media, first-person documentary series following the lives of 18 undergraduate students throughout the academic year as their Georgetown stories unfold.
- Create weekly content for university accounts on various platforms (Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Youtube, etc) for audiences over 75,000. 
- Serve as a representative for the university for press appearances and events

YLEAD is a pre-oreintation program that immerses first-year students and undergraduate peer leaders in topics of diversity and social justice, and leadership on Georgetown's campus and in the D.C. community.
In the position of coordinator I:


• Curated a curriculum grounded in various scholarly frameworks (critical social theory, liberation theology, social change model of leadership, inter-group dialogue, ignition pedagogy, learning outcome driven approaches) to foster growth, self-awareness, and leadership in YLEAD peer leaders and participants in the context of social identities, structures and systems, and community. 
• Synthesized data from pre- and post-program assessment into a year end report of the program (available upon request)
• Developed relationships with various entities at Georgetown and in the broader community
• Trained peer leaders in facilitation, dialogue, mentorship and community building skills
• Maintained a detail budget for expenses relating to YLEAD
• Sought out sponsors and community organizations to supplement funding for the program

Worked with educators from the Latin American Youth Center in Washington, D.C. to facilitate a college immersion camp at Georgetown University for minority DC high school students. Taught and lesson planned classes focused on college writing, college preparation, and career enrichment. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating on weekly lesson planning
- Leading classroom workshops on the above topics
- Planing for trips and executing contracts
- Facilitating classrooms and lesson catered towards ELL students
